Sensing inclusion among visually impaired and guide runners

People with visual impairments partake in recreational running sighted guide runners. In the Netherlands, Running Blind foundation enables blind and visually impaired runners their guides to experience social physical benefits of outdoor recreation together. While sport policies programs Netherlands call for more inclusive practices, it is often unclear what ‘inclusion’ means people involved. This article explores how a sense inclusion constituted, experienced reflected on within guided running. Based three months immersive, sensory ethnographic fieldwork running, we argue that merely integrating disabled sports practitioners into mainstream, is, ableist sporting contexts does not increase different abilities. Instead, ensembles challenge ‘the language inclusion’ by showing evolves from an empathic engagement environment, tethered bodies.
